Student Name: Mr. Pelletier Robot Name: Dragoon My Robot's Strategy: Movement: Dragoon roughly skirts around the edges of the map, and swings it's cannon in a 180 arc in front of it. If it gets near a wall, it tries to back up quickly and change it's direction by roughly 90 degress so as to not waste much time avoiding walls. Sometimes it still hits a wall because the cannon isn't always pointing directly in front of the robot to prevent collisions, but this is rare. Offense: If it detects a robot when the cannon is cool (< 20), it will shoot at any range, but usually these miss. If the cannon is hotter, it will only take closer range shots that are more likely to hit. This way it doesn't needlessly overheat the cannon. It never fires while loading or while the cannon is overheated, so as to avoid the firing penalty. Defense: Dragoon's main defense is just to keep moving at a fairly fast speed. It is slow enough that it can stop in time and avoid collisions with other robots, but fast enough that it can dodge a lot of bullets. Weakness: Dragoon's main weakness is that because it's cannon sweeps a big arc, it takes a lot of random shots rather than saving up for one big accurate burst like Ghost or Seige Tank do. This sometimes costs it the game. VS. Seige Tank ------------------------------ Wins: 2 Losses: 1 Total Damage by Me: 600 Total Damage by Opponent: 352 Evaluation: Dragoon did well against seige tank, but it lost the first match. The fact that seige tank saves up it's shots for a burst of 5 rounds is dangerous to Dragoon if it happens to drive close by just when the burst is ready to fire. Otherwise it seems to be able to dodge most of Seige Tanks shots and swoop in for some hits. Improvement: I wonder if eliminating the long, random shots that rarely seem to hit would help? VS. Ghost --------------------------- Wins: 2 Losses: 1 Total Damage by Me: 566 Total Damage by Opponent: 600 Evaluation: Ghost beat me, but not by much. Each time I lost, it was very close. The fact that Ghost hides in the corner makes it difficult to hit, because the two walls seem to shelter it from the long-range attacks. Also, when I swoop in, since ghost is in the corner, Dragoon is often doing his wall-avoiding code rather than fighting, which makes for akward fighting sometimes. Improvements: I am going to add some firing code in my wall-avoiding function to make sure Dragoon will still fire even while avoiding walls. VS. Mr. Pelletier's Dragoon --------------------------- Wins: Losses: Evaluation: This is my own robot, so it makes no sense for me to fill this out.
